Understanding the Changing Landscape in an Arctic Community

Understanding the Changing Landscape in an Arctic Community

How can we respond to the effects of global warming on the built infrastructure of Alaskan towns? To answer this question, we created a network of environmental sensors in collaboration with local tribal and public organizations to help make sense of the fast-paced environmental change in the North Slope of Alaska, ancestral and current territory of the Iñupiat.

For this project I am particularly dedicated to the design and implementation of common technologies for environmental research, including data, software, and hardware. The goal is to have a set of common tools that can be used as devices for community-building to adress pressing socio-environmental problems.

This project is sponsored by the National Science Foundation (grant #2022639) and developed in partnership with the HDF Group.
