Big Dot

Big Dot

Big Dot was designed (and fabricated) as an educational board for students to learn about data acquisition (the hard way, so to speak). It is distributed as an OSHW kit and serves for low-power applications that use LoRa for wireless communication. It supports popular development frameworks, such as Arduino and RIOT-OS, and has been extended to use WiFi and LTE-M wireless connectivity as well.

Our hardware kit was originally funded by the “Network Public Spaces” (NPS) project at University of Virginia for the study and implementation of community-based environmental sensor networks. Since 2023, Big Dot has been developed independently by a group of OSHW enthusiasts.
